Portal RSS Integration
« on: August 25, 2009, 09:22:11 PM »
I think it'd be good to have the ability to identify a news feed for the portal page out of the different options. For example, the current front portal page uses the recent topics feed as the official feed for the page. Firefox puts an RSS button in the address bar to let you know that. But there is also a site news box which would also be a good choice for an official feed.

Also, some browsers do not support the "feed for this page" option and it would be good to include a small RSS button in the title bar of appropriate boxes so you can subscribe to those individual feeds.

I'm not sure if this deserves it's own topic or not, but I'm hoping there's an option for a news feed coming from the newest post in a particular board.  TP has this and Simple Portal didn't have this in it's early releases and I thought that was a big downer.

RSS would rock. I get feeds from sites and I share them with others.

What would be even cooler is to allow members to add their own RSS in a block. Since part of the portal is going to allow people to change the layout of the portal. Customized blocks would be sweet. Not just customized positions, but also allowing members to add blocks with their own content to them. Such as RSS feeds from their favorite websites and such. :)

Agreed, this is actually something I'll be working on fairly soon.

Cheers :)
