Future of Dream Portal
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:04:38 PM »
I haven't noticed any slowdown here, but I haven't spotted a thread talking about this either.

In light of the ongoing events over at SMF, what is the future of Dream Portal?  Will this project go forward regardless of what happens with the team there or is there a possibility DP will no longer be developed?

Well that's discussed in the team boards. Maybe he should take a look at SMF-Friends.org?

Here's a quote from Chris

This is just a friendly notice to what I've been doing with SMF, in order to keep you all updated with the go-ons with Dream Portal.

Right now, SMF is in a state of turmoil (see SMF on fire to see why) [Private Board]. These issues will hopefully be resolved. However there is no clear cut winner, and developing for SMF has become difficult to do with that kind of unapproachable future.

Dream Portal will be ported for other software-- such as MyBB, phpBB, and the upcoming Phoenix project that the SMF Friends are building as well as other free forum software. We intend on doing this once we gather ourselves an identity on SMF.

We will remain working on SMF until SMF is declared is "dead" or is "no longer being worked on", and we will proceed with caution.

Thank you.

Thanks for the helpful info and that quote.  I have been hanging around smf-friends.org but haven't come across any discussion about DP there myself. Must have missed it.

So, will DP continue to be developed for SMF so long as SMF remains as an official project with a team of developers, regardless of who that team is?  Or will DP be "picking sides"?  Or is there still not really an answer to this?

Thanks for all the info.

Looks like someone moved it since I'd posted

To more fully answer your question, we are currently developing Dream Portal for Simple Machine Forums, and will port the software to other major Bulletin Board software upon completion. We are a neutral portal, and although we might have our personal opinions, we will disregard those when developing Dream Portal. We hope to share our dream with as many people as possible.
