There are tons of things that should be added. For instance, I would have no idea that the vids were at the top of this board until someone told me. Why? Because I'm already a member who has been reading this topic. So, I would naturally just click "Replies" which takes me to the last post made...this probably would not be near the top of the topic where I could see the vids.

A FAQ should contain useful info that anyone would most likely ask such as:

1.  What is DP?

Answer: DP is portal software for SMF that can do...etc.

2.  Where can I download DP?

Answer: You can download the current version at the following link: (link)

3.   I'm getting this error (specific error)

Answer: Please read the following the following link: (link) OR this is what's causing it...etc.

4.  Where is the help section?

Answer: You can view this board (link) or view our videos located here (link).

5.  How can I help DP?

Answer: Please post in this board (link).

Get the idea?  8)

It will save the staff a ton of unnecessary work and they will be able to focus on what they do best...making DP better. Keep in mind that there will always be those who do not read the FAQ, are in a hurry, require "special" or "priority" support, etc. For those users, you can always make a post in the staff boards with premade answers to the links and just copy and paste as needed.  :P

Just because there aren't many posts being made by the users does not mean DP is not being downloaded and used. There are many who may not need support and know how to follow stickies and FAQs. ;)

A FAQ is certainly the best way to go in documention in my opinion. However most people disagree with that.

I was being considered for writing the documentation for SMF at one time, but I backed out before it started because I completely disagreed with the structure of how they wanted it. They didn't want FAQ's.

I currently find SMF documention next to useless, and they still ended up adding some FAQ because of User Frustration.

I also wrote documention for TinyPortal, over 100+ FAQ's. As you can see HERE. Which after about a year I was flamed for it, because it was in FAQ format.

I started documentation for DP, but was told NOT FAQ's. So I just did the videos, and had much more planned, but at the time could not complete the videos because of existing bugs(videos were made from development versions).

Once DP 1.1 peeps it's head out, I will begin extensive video documention for that.

Video documentations is a good solution ;) I can fit up to 64 YouTube videos in one bar if needed :P

The more documentation / tutorials the better off you'll be.
Some like to read some to watch video's.  For me either is good but all info is good info.

The topic's that will be in demand are the ones where it all went pair shaped and are looking for fixes.

It doesn't necessarily have to be in FAQ format but something users can read to answer most asked questions and to find where certain things are. It keeps things organized and you can always just copy and paste links to it or parts of it to let a user know what they should do or what they should already know.

Stickies in every board letting everyone know what is expected (and not expected) in that board will also help direct users accordingly. I like to refer to The Rules as Guidelines...it doesn't sound as harsh.

As far as tutorials go, vids are future. I still do tuts in a text and image format like you are here and you need to go there. Such as this:

New users find it very easy to follow.
