Facebook Module
« on: March 16, 2011, 08:22:26 PM »
Facebook Comment Module for DP
Version 0.3beta ;)

Features:
Multiple Instances - as many Comment boxes you want using unique XID's
Post a comment without posting it to your Facebook wall
Fully customizable - URL to show on wall on like/comment, Title to show
Multiple icons to chose from
Set a fixed width, minimum 600 px
Set number of posts shown, this also sets the height of the module ;)
Now supports post back, so if a user comments on your FB page it will also be shown on your forum ;)

Recent changes on the FB:Comment tag renders old version of this mod useless, and because the migration functions works poorly I did not include that function in this release, so I am sorry for you guys already using this mod because you will loose the old comments

Requires a Facebook Application ID - but it is somewhat painless to set it up :)

Bonus: If you ask me nicely I will make a FB app for you, so just message me, with the URL to your forum and an email address and I will set up the app for you and mail you back the FB AppID ;) That's what I call great service ;)

I hope you guys will like it :)

Thanks to: SoLoGHoST, for taking the time to teach a DP nOOb ;)
And to all the cool people at DP: Willemjan, Chilly, Robby, Skhilled, Xarcell, ccbtimewiz, Masterd and everyone else I might have forgotten ;)

Wow, this is great!  I absolutely love the different icon choices that you've added to choose from for this module.  Just one string has 1 problem...

This string within the language files:

Code: [Select]
$txt['fbcomment'] = 'Facebook Comment';

Should be this instead:

Code: [Select]
$txt['dpmod_fbcomment'] = 'Facebook Comment';

I think that's about it that is wrong with this mod.  Basically, you notice this when you go to modify the module, as it just says "Settings" within the title, instead of it saying "Facebook Comment Settings".

Cheers KinGJaZz, a great example of using custom icons within a Dream Portal Module.

Just a suggestion:  Perhaps a link too that Facebook application within the $txt['dpmodinfo_fbcomment'] or better yet, you can add a $helptxt string that will provide a general HELP Icon for the Module within the title header (when modifying the module) as well...

Code: [Select]
$helptxt['dpmod_fbcomment'] = 'whatever you want in here';

Something I didn't mention, but definitely another plus (in case you don't want to overcrowd the $txt['dpmodinfo_fbcomment'] section.

Cheers :)

To do:

Add some error handling
Add a few more settings (Moderation on/off) - comments need to be approved before shown on the page)
Add Simple mode on/off: true/false (is now set to the default: false)

KinGJaZz - I removed version 0.1 Beta, just so you know, because it had that language string bug in it.

Cheers bro :)
