Front page news
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:04:24 PM »
Is it possible to add a module to post directly news on the front page, instead of a link to a forum only.
So you can see the latest news on the front page.

And in the settings you can choose how many items you show on the front page.

Thanks,

Tjoene

Some more details please ;) Do you want the users to be able to post in this news mod? Or is it for the admins only? Do you want the whole news text to be shown? or only parts of it and on click it opens in some way? (new tab, in a window, in the same DIV etc)

It is for admins only.
I saw this in the adk Portal. (see http://test.smfpersonal.net/ => in the middle of the page, the news block) (Other portals have this to I believe).
I don't know if you know how that system works, but there in the control panel for the adk portal you have a section for the news block.
There you have to put the text and post it. And that will be shown on the portal page.

But I would like to be able post news in forums. Kinda like how it is now.
But instead of the forum link, you see the first post of the topic, containing the news.

And with a setting in DP control panel you can choose how many topics you want to show. All the items would be sorted under each other with the newest on top.
And all the older news are hidden under a sub page. You can see the pages at the bottom on the module then.

I agree with you, but I think it should be an option in the recent posts/topics module. To show only headlines, or the message, or an part of the message.

Add an parameter to controle display options, and have:

- List
- Post with specified amount of characters
- Full posts

This can be done using $context['random_news_line'].

Could you give some more precise coding please? Something we can add to DP1.1?

Ok, this request is strange...

Just about anything that can be shown, news, or otherwise, can be done via the Site News Module, Recent Module and/or the Custom Module in Dream Portal.  If you want to type in your own news, do it with the Custom Module, modify the module, use BBC, HTML, or PHP code to type your news with, change the icon, change the Module title and TADA, you have a NEWS Module with your own Custom News, not linked to any boards/topics.  If you want news linked to topics, than use the Recent Module, in Dream Portal 1.1, this was renamed to "Blog Module" since it resembles more of a blog now, and in DP 1.1 you can have posts within the module, as well as many many other options for this.  If you want topics found within a specific Board id value to be inserted into a Module, than you can use either the Site News Module or the Blog Module again, in DP 1.1.

So, everything that was mentioned here and more can be done already with DP 1.1, so I am going to remove it from the Roadmap as it is already available in the newest DP 1.1 Revision, and honestly, don't see why you can't do this already within DP 1.0.5 either....  in DP 1.0.5, you can either use Custom Module, or Recent Module, or Site News Module to do this.  And yeah, I know that the Recent Module doesn't show the contents of the post in DP 1.0.5, so if this is what you want, just wait until DP 1.1 is released and the Modules for it as well, which isn't far off now...
