Well this is our first blog post of the doomsday year.  :P

I just wanted to update everyone on the progress of Dream Portal 1.1. Dream Portal 1.1 was finished and was tested for BUGS. After beating DP 1.1 down for awhile, there were only 3 minor bugs found. Those were fixed that day, or by the next day I believe.

The reason why Dream Portal 1.1RC1 has not been released for public testing(as planned) is because SoLoGHoST got a genius idea on how to make advanced layouts waaaaay more user friendly. This was something the team was going to brainstorm on and adjust for DP 1.2. However, since the idea was fresh on Solo's mind, he felt compelled to add it to DP 1.1. I gotta tell you, it's going to rock your world.

I think there has been several DP 1.2 planned features squeezed in 1.1. As it stands, I think there is only hand-full of things left for 1.2, if even that much. I don't want to mention any details here.

I can't quite remember off hand what's been added to DP since the last blog post, but I can tell you that we are testing revision #14, and during the last blog post we were testing revision #8. So you see, there has been steady progress.

The number of Modules for DP 1.1 has increased from 23 to 33 since the last blog post two months ago. These aren't little crappy modules being put together, all of them are nice in my opinion. Most of them are "block requests" for other portals that were never made.  At this point, I almost don't know what else to add.

We even have a adspace manager module, where you can show a text and/or image Ad for a set amount of time. Afterwards, it expires and reverts to a default text and/or image Ad set by the admin. This allows you to rent out adspace to whoever you choose. Since all DP modules are clone-able, you can have as many as these as you would like. Pretty cool huh?

Well that's all for now. Hopefully the next blog post we be us discussing the public testing release of DP 1.1RC1. I can't wait for this because anyone who doesn't think DP 1.1 isn't the best SMF portal by far, I'm gonna slap and poke in the eyes.

I'll admit that that is the single most user unfriendly area of DP. Yes, I did bash my own UI... lol.

Also, impressions? And would it rotate ads if the admin has decided to add in more than one? And would they be membergroup-based?

That module already sounds quite epic! :)

The module does not count impressions. That was beyond my skill(I tried). However ad rotation isn't a bad idea, it could be added. I doubt I have the skill to get them working membergroup-based with ad rotation, but you can also make the whole module itself membergroup-based. Remember, the modules are clone-able ;)

Thanks. I also just added another module that allows you to make comments via facebook. Each page on your site gets it's own set of comments. It's no biggie, but it was requested so I added it.

I'm thinking that you could addd a module parameter and count the views there. For membergroups you could do array_combine as the shoutbox module does.

Just to update you on this I did find a way to add in impressions without using the database. It's has been implemented and is working. Although, I'm currently looking for better way than I currently have to reset impression count.

Does DP 1.1 have the option to redirect users straight to the forums tab, instead of the portal?

Yes it does.

However, if you cannot wait, then you can install This Package with DP 1.0.5 and get that effect.

Thanks. Although that particular package removes the portal tab completely. What I was asking is to have the layout still available, yet not have it the primary page it goes to. I think simpleportal has this function as well, where it let's you pick if you want the portal or forum to be the default page.

I'm confused...

If you want a homepage, but not make it default, all you would need to do is create a page, then put what you want in it with the layout you want, and add the menu item for it to be in first place.

Can you not do it that way?

I believe he's saying that he wants to have the Homepage still, but not make it default to the homepage when you browse to the index.php file of his site's root.

In that case, there's no point of even having a homepage, because the homepage would not really be a homepage.  So you would just get rid of the homepage altogether, and than just create a Dream Page and a Dream Menu Button that will link to that Dream Page and use that instead for it.  Basically, this is what Xarcell has already suggested doing.

Honestly, it's been quite a long time since I have taken a look at DP 1.0.5, because I have been focusing all of my development on DP 1.1.  I know that what I stated above is possible to do in DP 1.1, but I honestly have forgotten everything that DP 1.0.5 offers and/or doesn't offer.  So, if this isn't possible to do in DP 1.0.5, than just wait for DP 1.1 to come around soon and all will be possible.

Cheers :)

In no way do I need this done for DP 1.0.5, as I was just curious if DP 1.1 had this feature. Thanks for the insight though, that pretty much answers my initial question.  :D
